It is estimated that up to a billion people could be remote working by 2035. How will this impact local communities? Who will be the winners and losers and how can we make a positive difference for future generations?

The Covid 19 pandemic and internet technology changed the way we live and work forever. Our documentary series GLOBAL CIRCLER delves deep into the digital nomad lifestyle to discover the truth behind the growing phenomenon.

The term digital nomad has been around for a while but for most of society, it wasn’t on their radars until quite recently.

When the global Covid 19 pandemic broke out in 2020 offices shut down and people were forced to work from home. Post-pandemic many seized the opportunity to roam the world while working remotely from their laptops instead of being chained to a desk.

We will examine the digital nomad lifestyle and its impact on society. Is it a good thing or a bad thing? Who are the winners and losers? How do nomads make money while travelling?  Is the digital nomad life really as rewarding as it appears on Instagram?

We also want to examine the roots of nomadic life and see if there are any parallels between nomadic tribes and the digital nomads of today. What drives modern-day nomads to leave their homes, friends and families beyond the obvious wish to travel the world?

As remote working grows in popularity how can it be done responsibly and benefit local communities and future generations?

The GLOBAL CIRCLER documentary series is being produced by filmmakers and nomads Umesh Dhanji and Nick Szymczak. London born Umesh began his nomadic journey more than 15 years ago and Nick from Bavaria in Germany began his 4 years ago.

Umesh is the founder of the Global Circle Club for digital nomads and the Global Circler community movement that aims to inspire, support and connect citizens of the world. Umesh is also a published music producer, remixer & DJ and is passionate about filmmaking having acted in an award-winning movie and two 48 hour challenge short films.

Nick is a professional cinematographer and filmmaker with over 10 years of experience including working as a camera operator at ZDF in Germany. Nick has produced three feature documentaries seen in theatres, accepted at Gaia and Amazon Streaming Services as well as local and national television stations. Nick also successfully raised €144,471 via crowdfunding for his first film.

We are working behind the scenes to produce our pilot episode to be shot in Lisbon, Portugal, a major digital nomad hotspot.

Our mission is to produce a factual and entertaining documentary series that covers various nomad destinations such as Lisbon, Barcelona, Bali, Istanbul, Cape Town, Madrid, Mexico City, Medellin and more as we meet nomads, locals and experts. We are interested in examining the impact on local communities who are often finding themselves priced out as nomads/expats arrive. On the flip side, nomads spend money and stimulate the local economy providing opportunities for local entrepreneurs. Can we find a happy balance?

We aim to distribute our series onto streaming platforms like Netflix and Prime and/or national broadcasters to reach the largest possible audience and inspire as many people as possible.

We will soon be running a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to raise the funds needed to produce our Lisbon episode. We are planning to hold a private screening in Lisbon that crowdfund participants can attend, meet the production team and enjoy a great evening!

Please use the form below to register your interest and we’ll let you know when our campaign goes live.

We hope you are as excited as we are about our documentary series. If you would like to help support the series please get in touch using the form below or you can email us at [email protected]

Best regards

Umesh & Nick
